Sunny Day to All, Since we decided to stay home this year, I chose to host Thanksgiving dinner at the house. With my surgery coming up, I knew that I had to lay low for Christmas. Why not turn up for thanksgiving? A few great friends decided to join and we made some great memories together. I pulled my dinnerware, silverware, glassware and linen out for this event. Oh, how I enjoyed using all my goodies! I had 18 RSVP's and was thrilled to set up the tables for that many guests. I spent the entire day cooking and prepping. I had a few of my sisters visiting from out of town. They both helped tremendously with the preparation. We had a blast in the kitchen that Thursday. Allow me to share some of the pictures with you guys. I usually don't post about gatherings but Thanksgiving meant a lot to me this year. I felt like this was going to be the last time I smiled in 2019. I was scared... No, I was terrified. With this surgery coming up, I was looking for signs everywhere. Signs making me feel like everything was going to be ok. Signs making me feel like we were not doing this for anything. Signs making me feel like our many years together will be compensated somehow one day. Signs making me feel like we were not a joke. Because I knew that we weren't. I knew that we were blessed somehow and that we had a purpose in this world. I had hope! I just needed a confirmation from God that day.
After dinner, we surprised my sister with a cake for her birthday and she was extremely happy. At this point, everything was going well. After several glasses of wine, I was having a blast with family and friends. Just when I thought the night was coming to an end, my dear nephew that I adore, proposed to his beautiful High school sweetheart in my blessed home. I was extremely shocked as I was not expecting this. I didn't know that he was even dating so this engagement was a total surprise. Both hubby and I were not aware of this proposal at all. After being out of words for a few minutes, I realized that this was the sign that I have been asking for all along. The one that was meant to remind me that my home was indeed blessed and that everything was going to be ok. This engagement refurbished my hope. That day, I thanked God for this blessing and felt much better about this surgery coming up. I was hopeful maybe more than before. This is how I remember this day....

Sunny Day to All, I was extremely surprised to see the feedback from my last post. I received so many messages. I literally spent the entire Saturday night responding to private messages. My DM was on FIRE! I have so much to share, so much to say about my journey. I will be sharing more very soon. Stay tuned! Let's get back to this fantastic pattern review. Hubby and I was invited to an All Black Affair on a cold Saturday Night in November. I didn't have a lot of time to sew so I decided to make a simple top. I also didn't want to be regular so I thought I would add a little sequins to the black to stand out. I purchased this fabric a while back from Gstreet Fabric. It was perfect for this vintage Simplicity pattern, Simplicity 8452. It took me just about 2 hours to make this top. Working with sequins is not as easy as it seems. I must admit... I had a hard time figuring out how to wear this top. I kept wearing it upside down and couldn't figure out why it didn't fit me. I was confused for a good 30 minutes before I figured out that I had it on upside down. HA! I chose to wear this sequins top with some tight high-waisted pants from New York and Company. and rose gold jewelry to match the sequins on the top. Please note that these pictures are Pre-surgery before Thanksgiving. Enjoy these few pics and don't forget to say Hello! Happy Sewing to You my loves!!!! About The PatternSimplicity 8452 is extremely easy. I cut size medium but I believe that the large would be ok as well if I wanted it to be a little loose. I liked the tight fit since I was headed to a nightclub. I found the vintage pattern explanation a little harder but this is just 3 pieces and it was pretty easy to sew. I received several compliments for this top. This is definitely a beginners pattern. Hope you enjoy these few pictures. Happy Sewing to You!
Sunny Day to All,
I am a big fan of the Holidays. I love the family gatherings... the songs, the decorations... the dinners... and the trips that are sometimes associated with the Holidays. This year, things were a little different for us. My husband and I have been going to Haiti for Christmas and New Years since December 2012, 4 years after we got married. I grew up in Haiti where our tradition for the Holidays is all about family love, family gatherings, catching up with those we haven't seen in a while and celebrating together. It became our little tradition. A tradition that consisted in booking tickets, packing and celebrating our anniversary, Christmas and New years at Home (Haiti) with family. 2019 has been a rough year for us in someways, however, I wouldn't erase it if I could, because I had to learn to be tougher in life and focus on what matters. After 10 years of marriage, my family remains party of 2. Some claims that it is a blessing that we are always free to do whatever we want; it is always surprising to hear those comments especially when none of those party of 3, 4, 5 or 6 would have given any of theirs away to become party of 2. Others found it perfectly fine to make false assumptions about us but we remain strong, possibly stronger than ever. For those of you that don't know, Infertility is a not a joke. Be careful with comments or assumptions, you may be hurting someone more than you know. It is perfectly fine to stay quiet and listen, instead of saying the wrong thing. I don't want to get in too many details; but after 2 failed IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and a recent myomectomy, I am physically, emotionally and financially exhausted. God, I want to sew... I need to sew... however, I am limited as to what I can do at this time. I am stuck for a month. I will be sharing my toughs in hope that it will let someone know that they are not alone in this process. It's been 11 long years.... We are not afraid nor ashamed of our situation. It's our journey and we shall overcome this hump, one day. We have found ways to deal with it, maybe because we love each other so much. I can't tell someone how to deal with this terrible disease but If you are in need, you may seek therapy or there are several free support groups available in person or online. Just reach out... Now that you know why I am actually having a cold Christmas and have not been sewing.... Allow me to share my 2019 Holiday and the few garments I made in November in the next couple of days. Cheers to a GREAT 2020. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave a comment. Sunny Day to All, I think that by now, everyone has figured out that off the shoulder anything is my favorite. I don't really lift weights on anything. I just love showing off my shoulders. This is by far one of my to go patterns when trying to make something quick. I love easy patterns that can easily be attached to another pattern to make new looks. This off the shoulder look is from Simplicity 1613. I certainly can't wear this dress with sandals in Maryland right now because it is freezing. But I can wear it with some ankle boot and a scarf. I am a true summer girl but I live in Maryland so I must find easy ways to still look classy and beautiful in the winter. A midi dress is the perfect classy look. It covers enough skin so you won't be too cold walking to or from your event. I used a double knit fabric that I purchased from Gstreet fabric. Olive green is definitely a perfect color for the fall and winter. Brace yourself this 2019 Fall and Winter. I will be rotating between Midi Dresses and Jumpsuits. Enjoy these few pics that Hubby snapped, while away for my Birthday last month. About the PatternI used Simplicity 1613 for the top and self-drafted the bottom. I have used this pattern for several different looks and it never fails. It is very quick and easy to follow. For the bottom, I self-drafted it based on my measurements and added a split in the back. Happy Sewing to You and don't forget to say hello.
Sunny Day to All, I was invited to my niece's 21st birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Tati! It was a beautiful fall Sunday; cold enough to wear some boots and comfortable enough to not have to wear a jacket. I woke up around 9:30 am and thought, why not? I recently purchased a few patterns to make this fall and winter. Simplicity 9011 was definitely quick and extremely easy. I purchased this fabric from Gstreet fabrics last winter and never got to use it. It is a beautiful sweater knit animal print. It took me just about 2 hours to finish this dress. I rocked it with my skinny black belt, my black leather boots, some black tights and my Prada shades. My husband was nice enough to snap a few pictures before I stepped out. Thanks honey! Hope you guys enjoy these few pictures of this beautiful pullover dress. About the PatternSimplicity 9011 is definitely a quick make. It is only 3 pattern pieces for View A and it was very easy. I actually cut size 12 because I wanted it to be fitted and made a short version so I could rock it with some high boots. I love the original version but I had a vision. A vision that I accomplished. I loved the way the sleeves are cut together with the bodice. This is a beginner pattern. It might become one of my favorite for the winter. Quick and Beautiful!
