Sunny Day to All, That Red and Black dress is so beautiful. My husband and I attended a ball last Saturday night. I wasn't sure about what I wanted to wear but I knew that I wanted something different. I actually made this dress on Saturday morning and rocked it on Saturday night. I went with this beautiful retro pattern, Butterick 5748. I love a sexy dress but this one was a classy sexy chic dress. I felt like a princess. This pattern is a true definition of sophistication and class. Needless to say, the hubby could not stay away from me the whole night. LOL. I got the fabric from Gstreet Fabric in Rockville Maryland. It is a satin Flock fabric. This could definitely be used as a wedding guest pattern. I paired it with some gold jewelry, a black belt with gold accent and my Katy Perry black and gold pump to match the gold zipper. Enjoy these few pics! About the PatternThat pattern was pretty easy but I had some troubles. I have a short torso so I cut the Petite version. I cut a size 12 grading to a 14 around the waist. OMG... I should have cut a size10 grading to 14. The shoulders were too deep. I had to take about an inch away. I moved the zipper to the back instead of the side since I wanted the gold accent. I had to sew both sides in to fit me right. I decide to finish it with a bias tape extra wide double fold instead of hemming it. I enjoyed making this pattern and will probably make it again in an Ankara fabric. I need to just remember all the alterations and I will be ok. I consider this dress an intermediate beginner level.
