Sunny Day to All, I was in the mood to make something out of the ordinary this past Saturday. I had an event to attend on Saturday night and of course I didn't feel like wearing anything that was already in my closet. That is the advantage of sewing. I looked over my pattern book and came across McCall 7722. It has not been cold at all lately but it is still "long sleeve" season. I picked 3 light fabrics from my stash. The flower pattern fabric is from Walmart. It is actually a polyester knit. The stripe fabric is from Gstreet Fabric in Rockville Maryland and the black fabric is a lightweight silk knit fabric (old from my stash). Since the shirt is so busy, I wanted to keep everything else simple. I paired my bold, yet classy shirt with some black shorts (old), silver jewelry, my Steeve Madden sandals (similar HERE) and some fashion shades that I really love (gifted). Of course, I had to add the red lips to complete the look. Ha! Enjoy these few pics! About the PatternMcCall 7722 is a great pattern. You may use different types of fabric to achieve another look. I chose View D and cut size 12. I did not make any alterations. It was straight to the point. I am thinking about making this patten in a beautiful Ankara fabric. I also want to make it using some glitter fabric. I can only imagine how the gathered sleeve would look. It only took a couple of hours and I was out the door for my event. I receive plenty of compliments for this shirt. So if you are in need of a quick, easy top, this pattern is a winner. Thank you so much for stopping by. Happy Sewing to you and don't forget to say hello.

Sunny Day to All, It was indeed a beautiful day in Maryland. It was sunny and warm enough not to have to wear a jacket. I saw this beautiful knit fabric in Joan on Friday and thought it would be great for an Easter dress. When I got home that night, I searched my pattern stash and picked Simplicity 8834. I needed something simple but different. I didn't want a maxi dress because it's not summer yet so I thought a knee lenght dress would be perfect. I didn't think I was going to finish this dress because hubby got really sick and we ended up spending our Saturday in the ER. Thanks to God, he got a little better on Sunday and I got to finish my dress right on time for mass. YAY!!!! I got to rock my fresh off the machine dress! And the best part of my Easter was the fact that he was able to join me for the service. I rocked it with my BCBG purse, gold jewelry, my Prada shades and my green Michael Antonio sandals (old). Enjoy these few pics. About the PatternSimplicity 8834 was very easy. I chose view C and cut size 12. I didn't make any alteration to the pattern. The instructions were very clear and precise. This sewing journey is becoming easier. This is the first time I used my rotary cutter and I must admit, I am a fan. I will never go back to cutting with scissors. Well, never say never.... Happy Sewing to you and thanks for stopping by.
Sunny Day to All, Thank you so much for stopping by to see my super easy velvet jumpsuit. This past Saturday was a full afternoon / evening planned with my ladies. We were celebrating one of my sister's birthday. The temperature was unpredictable. It was warm during the morning but according to the weather channel, it was supposed to be cold at night. The Velvet fabric was perfect for the occasion. Jumpsuits are in right now so guys, this blog is about to be Jumpsuit overload because a sister love herself some jumpsuits. I apologize in advance. I used Simplicity 8386 for the top and self drafted the bottom using a self drafted legging pattern that I made last year. I purchased this beautiful Hunter green velvet fabric in LA in a small store in the Fashion district last year. I paired this beautiful jumpsuit with some gold jewelry and my BCBG yellow Sandals (old). I almost forgot, I am into pins these past couple of months so I finished the look with a gold floral pin. I really liked the final look. Enjoy these few pics and don't forget to say Hi. About the PatternSimplicity 8386 is actually a top. I used view C to make the top of my jumpsuit. I added 3 inches to the length so I could make the gathers on the side. A sister gained some weight. Ya'll already know that gathers around the waist help hide the mid section a little bit. HA! I keep it real all the time. I cut size 12 and it was perfect. At first I planned on adding a zipper in the back. So I did not cut the back on the fold. I actually added 1 inch for the seam. But I decided to omit the zipper since it was so much stretch into the fabric. I wanted the top to be fitted but wanted the bottom to be nice and comfortable. I used my self-drafted legging pattern for the bottom part however, I added some inches so it would not be too tight. Please be on the look out because I will make plenty of jumpsuits using different "top" patterns. Happy sewing to you and thanks for stopping by.
Sunny Day to All, I made this dress a few month ago before I went to Haiti in December and never got to wear it. Ha! Ok, I must admit; I brought almost half of my atouchofmémé closet. I brought too many clothes and never got to wear this one. I am at the point where I only want to wear my own garments. I thought about leaving it in my closet in Haiti but thought about the spring coming up and packed it up. So here it goes! I used this sheer fabric that I got from Gstreet Fabric in Rockville, MD and this blue fabric that I also picked up at Gstreet Fabric a long time ago. I used Butterick 6553 . This is definitely a "brunch with the ladies" type of dress. It is very comfortable, not too tight, not too short, definitely the perfect definition of classy. I paired this beautiful dress with my Aldo fushia pumps (click the link for similar look) and some rose gold jewelry. Enjoy these few pics and don't forget to say hello :-). About the patternButterick 6553 is very easy. I made it even easier by using the bias tape at the end for the sheer fabric. If you are a beginner, use some bias tape for the sheer fabric, it makes it easier. If you picked the right combination, you will enjoy the finish look. I cut size 14 and made view B. I love the longer sheer fabric look in the back. Although there are no zippers, I would classify this dress as intermediate level. Just be patient and follow the instructions and you will have a great dress at the end. By the way, the instructions very easy to follow. If you are a beginner, take your time with the sheer fabric as it can get a little frustrating. Just being honest. :-)
Thank you so much for stopping by. Happy sewing to you!!!! Sunny Day to All, I committed to make a lot more separates than dresses in March and I did.... But didn't get to share them all on my blog during this month. Shame on me... I need to really focus. Sewing is my therapy and I need to let it do what it does best in my life. I wanted to make this skirt that I could wear to work. Not too sexy... not too tight... not too short.... This pattern, Simplicity 1760, was perfect. I used 2 different fabric to achieve this look. A colorful cotton fabric from Joann Fabric and a double knit black fabric that I already had in my stash. I wore it to work and got a lot of compliments. I paired it with some simple black heels and my black cardigan since it has been so cold lately. Enjoy these few pics and don't forget to say hello. About the Pattern Simplicity 1760 was very easy to make. It is definitely a beginners pattern. If you are looking for a sexier look, you can make it a little shorter, a little tighter with a double knit fabric and it will fit the look. I wanted to be able to wear it to work so I made it appropriate for work. I cut a size 14 and I think I could have easily took it in a little bit at the bottom but I liked the fact that it came out professional. This cut view D and loved the outcome. This corporate America girl needed some "A touch of Mémé "look for work. I could not find the pattern on the simplicity website but I found it on Amazon. If you like this look, order away or check your local Joan fabric, that's where I purchased mine. Happy Sewing to you and thanks for stopping by!!!!!
