Sunny Day to All,
Ohhhhhhh, how I miss blogging... I had so many awesome plans for this summer; so many patterns I was supposed to sew. I planned all these different outdoor photoshoots that never took place. So disappointing.... This was the year I was supposed to take advantage of the summer to crowd my blog with some new pieces and enhance my skills. I was supposed to launch a few new projects and collaborate with other "sewists" but nothing happened. Thank you to all of those that sent private messages asking if I was well. This summer has been very unpredictable. I had a medical procedure that totally stole my summer. I couldn't sew, I couldn't blog, I couldn't cook, I just couldn't... The stress associated with this procedure was overwhelming financially, physically and emotionally. I tried to sew because I knew that sewing was my happy place. However, I felt stuck. It's like I wasn't inspired anymore. I felt like I had nothing left in me. I didn't have the energy that I usually have. I chose to pray and left everything in God's Hands. It was not easy but I smiled during the entire process. Some will ask how I did it or how I stayed so positive and the only answer I had was God. By the time I got off from work every day, I was uncomfortable or in pain and my body needed to rest. I was on heavy meds and could barely stay awake when I got home. I had to take care of my body and my soul. Unfortunately the procedure did not end well. I was devastated and in pain. I saw the sadness in everyone surrounding my husband and I and it hurt. Everyone always feed from my energy and for the 2nd time of my life, I didn't have any to share. So I chose to stay away for a while to deal with the pain. I had to found this peaceful place in my heart to accept this path. It is taking a while but I am choosing to refocus on what brought me joy; God, family and of course sewing. When I finally found the strength to pick a pattern, select a fabric, cut and sew a garment, I was happy while I was sewing. But, as soon as I was done, I couldn't find the words to describe my experience with the pattern. So there you go, I am sitting on several garments that I have yet to share on the blog. But I kept sewing because when I did, I let myself go and felt much better. I have to admit that I still have my moments, but sewing heals. As soon as I started to sew again, I started feeling better. My body is still on recovery mode. I have an exhausted soul. My mind is still unsettled and my heart is still broken. But, sewing heals. I have an amazing husband who went through this entire process with me and never left my side, whether it was at home, the center or the hospital. I am blessed with a strong family support. I am also surrounded with great friends. So there you have it! This is where I have been. I am back and ready to share some great pieces. Again thank you so much for all the prayers, messages and support. Now it's time to loose this weight and keep sewing some beautiful garments. Sewing truly heals.... so I shall rejoice in my happy place. Happy Sewing to You!

Sunny Day to All, OMG! What a weekend! Hubby and I spent our entire Saturday in the yard. You would think we were in some type of Backyard competition on HGTV. We spent a total of 12 hours, weeding, pruning, cleaning and gardening. I can't wait to see the finish product. I shall post it when completed. On Sunday, we were supposed to spend the entire morning in the yard but I was beat. I was too tired to be in the sun all day. We were invited to a baby Shower and figured I will get to sewing. So I have so many patterns that I want to make this summer that I had a hard time picking one. It seems to be harder to pick a pattern then it is to make it lately. I wanted something flattering but not sexy. I chose this jumpsuit because I can see myself wearing it with heels to dress it up or with tennis shoes or sandals to dress it down. I remembered purchasing this fabric from GStreet Fabric with the idea of making a perfect casual/comfy jumpsuit. Well, McCall 7755 help me achieve this look so flawlessly. It is definitely an easy pattern and I will be sewing a few more before the summer ends. I paired it with my Steve Madden snakeskin heels and rose gold jewelry. I also took a pictures with my flats to show how it can be style down. I must admit, my front porch has been showing so well in my pictures. I need to sew some more so I may enjoy my gorgeous porch!!! About the PatternMcCall 7755 was very easy. I made this Jumpsuit in 3 hours from cutting, serging and sewing. I cut a medium size since I wear a 6 in normal clothing size. I had to make some alterations. I am only 5 feet tall so most pattern are longer on me than what it shows on the model. I opted to shorten the torso 2 inches and that was the best choice. It was so comfortable. I also made the front opening a little higher since I do not have too much chest to display. A sister is only a B cup. LOL. I did not make any other alterations as the patterns was easy and to the point. This is definitely a beginner's pattern. Happy Sewing to you my loves and don't forget to leave a comment.
Sunny Day to All, I am in need of a few dresses that I can wear to work but that I can also rock to church, brunch or just any upper scale summer gathering. My goal is to make about 10 of them before the end of July and rock them on rotation to work. HA! I cut this pattern a while back but for some reason did not finish it. It is McCall 7315. Before I went to Texas last week, I finished it but decided not to wear it for the graduation. Not sure why... I actually wore my African queen outfit that I love so much. Well, well, well, today I rocked it to work with my nude heels, rose gold jewelry and my super puffy hair. I am starting to love this puffy look. Watch out! Mémé is coming! Enjoy these few pics! You guys, check out my front porch!!!! Let's have some fun! This dress is very comfortable. I can see myself showing off my salsa skills in this dress. LOL About the PatternMcCall 7315 is very easy as the pattern cover states. I cut view A / size 14. Since I used a knit fabric, there was no need for a zipper. I have a short torso so I had to bring the bottom up a little bit so it could actually sit on my waist. Other than that, I should have cut a size 12 because it was definitely too big. I had to take it in on the side as well. I wanted to keep it classy so I could wear it to work and I did just that. The final look is gorgeous. Happy Sewing to you and don't forget to leave a comment.
Sunny Day to All, Last weekend was a busy one for me. I had several graduation parties to attend and of course, I always want to wear a custom piece. I wanted to garden, clean the house, do my hair, get the nails done, cook and sew. Of course, sewing always get squeezed in. Ha! I needed to make something quick for this graduation party because I didn't have enough time for a fancy pattern. I had this beautiful colorful lime green with flowers fabric that I purchased at an Ankara wholesale fabric store in Washington DC a while back. I had envisioned a maxi skirt as soon as I saw the fabric. And what better pattern to use then MimiG's Regal Maxi tutorial. It was perfect and quick! Because the fabric was so busy, I paired it with a simple white tank top and my beautiful sandals' from Mara's (from Haiti) and some custom colorful jewelry that I thought was perfect for the busy look. I almost forgot to mention that , with the excess fabric, I was able to make a headband that I also wore to complete the look. Needless to say, I felt like a Queen! Enjoy the pictures! About the PatternMimiG's Regal Maxi tutorial is very easy to follow. You do need more than 3 yards for this pattern. In my case, I needed more, as I wanted the flowers in the front of the dress. I had to position my fabric a certain way to achieve this look. The sew-along video was on point. The skirt was perfect and I got plenty of compliments. I chose to omit the belt but I am sure I will be making this again with the belt very soon. Thank you so much for stopping by and Happy Sewing to You!
Sunny Day to All of you, Let's just say that this is the time of the year that I get to sew even more. I love the summer! There are so many events that my husband and I get invited to that I am always motivated to create some beautiful garments. It is Graduation time! This past weekend we celebrated 2 Graduates. Today, I am sharing the outfit that I made to attend a graduation cookout for my dear friend who is now a nurse. Congrats Rach!!! You did it and I am so proud of you! I bought this fabric in L.A. Fashion District. I don't remember the name of the store I got it from but it wasn't too expensive at all. I used MimiG's Simplicity 8334 to create this look. I have been trying to make this pattern for a while now. I finally got to it and love the pattern. As you can see, I went with the comfy look. I paired my Camouflage dress with my Adidas and gold jewelry. Allow me to share that this is the very first time I pin my hair up since I cut my locks in December. I felt different but Hubby/Photographer loved it. He is such a sweetheart. About the PatternI have to admit the the part with the snaps intimidated me for a while. I finally got the guts to try it and I was sure that I would have to use MimiG's sew along to achieve the final look. You guys know that she is the BOMB.COM. Well, let me share this with you guys. I keep it real on my Blog. MimiG's tutorials was straight to the point and I was able to finish the major part of the dress. I was so excited about using snaps for the very first time. It was the morning of the event and I didn't have a lot of time to install them. I found a tutorial online for installing snaps. To my surprise, I had only purchased the refill. LOL. I did not have the actual kit to install them. Imagine my face when I realized that I was about to rock the dress without the snaps. smh.... I almost didn't wear it but after trying it, I realized that it was still so cute. So I ROCKED it, like it was fully completed. I cut a size 14, view A. I made a regular split on the side instead of the snaps and sewn the front opening a little higher to avoid showing too much.
I love the outcome. I will definitely make this again and yes, I will make sure to buy the kit to install the snaps. Thanks MimiG for the Tutorial. It made sewing this piece so easy. Make sure to leave a comment and let me know if you have used snaps before. Happy Sewing to you and thanks for stopping by!!!! |
